The ethos at Lady Manners School encourages students to excel. With the support of parents, alumni and the wider community, additional funding can be provided for a range of school activities, prizes, individual scholarships and capital projects. Together, we have been able to develop and enhance school facilities, provide our students with opportunities to excel and enrich their education.

If you would like to make a financial contribution, you can support us in a variety of ways, from regular and one-off donations, to legacies and Give–As–You–Earn schemes.

Make a gift

If you have fond memories of attending Lady Manners School, or your children attended, we hope that you will consider making a gift to Lady Manners School. All gifts, regardless of size, will make a valuable contribution to the development of the school. You can choose which of the school’s funds you would like to support, or let the school decide how best to use the funds. If you have your own ideas about how you would like your donation to be used, please contact our Business Manager, Mrs Snell, either by email or telephone (01629 812671).

If you would like to donate, you can make your donation by online transfer. Please contact accounts@ladymanners.derbyshire.sch.uk for further details.

If you prefer, you can donate by sending a cheque made payable to ‘Lady Manners School’ to: Mrs J Snell, Business Manager, Lady Manners School, Shutts Lane, Bakewell, Derbyshire, DE45 1JA.  Please contact accounts@ladymanners.derbyshire.sch.uk for further details about how to ‘Gift Aid’ your donation.

A really easy way to raise money for the school is by signing up, online, to The Giving Machine – and it’s completely free! If you click through The Giving Machine website before shopping online, over 2,000 retailers (including Amazon, Ebay, Sainsbury, Tesco, John Lewis and Argos) will donate a percentage of the amount you spend to Lady Manners School. Click this Giving Machine link to sign up now and you can start to raise funds for the school without leaving your living room.

If you run your own business, corporate giving may be an attractive and cost effective way of supporting Lady Manners School. When a company gives to a charity, the value of the gift can be offset against the company’s highest rate of corporation tax. Companies pay their donations gross and do not have to make any gift aid declaration. Tax relief is claimed against the value of the gift when calculating profits for corporation tax. Such gifts can be made on a regular or one–off basis.

For example, at current tax rates, for a company paying the highest rate of corporation tax, the net cost of the gift of £10,000 would only be £6,750. More information is available on the HMRC’s website. Please let the school know of your intentions so we can thank you!

Leaving a legacy in your will to Lady Manners School is one of the most meaningful and enduring gifts you can make. If and when the time is right for you to put a charity in your will, please remember us, especially if you have fond memories of your time spent at Lady Manners School. All legacies, whatever their size, will directly benefit the school and its students. For example, an original legacy of over £20,000 has provided all of our students gaining a place at Oxford with a scholarship for each year of their undergraduate studies.

As a registered charity, all gifts to Lady Manners School are completely free of inheritance tax and can include money, land, building or chattels. Leaving a legacy in your will can also reduce the amount of inheritance tax payable on the remainder of your estate. There are several different types of legacy that your solicitor can discuss with you when making a will, or including a codicil in an existing will. A summary of the different types of legacy can be found on the attached document, but advice should always be taken from either your solicitor or your financial advisor before making or changing your will.

Confidential Pledge form

Any legacy, large or small, will make a difference. If you would like to know more, our Business Manager would be delighted to hear from you. Please contact our Business Manager, Mrs Snell, either by email or telephone (01629 812671).

The Lady Manners School PTFA is tremendously supportive of the school. The PTFA works hard to raise money for particular projects that would not normally be possible without this extra funding. Just some of the things made possible by the money raised by the PTFA are:

  • refurbishment of our sports pavilion
  • provision of e-readers for use by students
  • purchase of a 3D printer for use by students in the Design and Technology Department
  • improvements to our stage lighting
  • refurbishment of science labs

If you are a parent of a child currently attending Lady Manners School, please consider donating to the PTFA via WisePay (‘Donations’ folder) taking part in PTFA fundraising activities as they also help to raise valuable funds for the school.

Other ways of giving

All contributions are equally valued and are part of what makes Lady Manners School special. Rather than a financial donation you may be able to give your time or your expertise, in one of the following ways for example:

  • as a potential future governor
