Year 12 History students recently spent a Saturday in Manchester and visited a range of sites including the Alan Turing memorial in Sackville Gardens, Manchester Art Gallery to see paintings and interpretations of the British Empire, as well as the People’s History Museum and St Mary’s Roman Catholic church – the first Catholic church built in Manchester after the Reformation.  Students also viewed a range of architectural styles, as well as the replica Roman fortifications in Castle field.

Spot the picture of students playing an early twentieth century board game called ‘Pank-a-Squith’, which was intended to teach young people about the challenges facing women fighting for the right to vote.  You can also see students at the Roman fortifications in Castlefield and St Mary’s Roman Catholic church, also known as the ‘hidden gem’.  It was a fantastic day!
