Update: Site Development

A decision last Friday, by the Peak District National Park Authority, to approve plans for 30 new affordable homes to be built, is one of the final steps in our journey to improve the sports facilities that we offer our students, and within the wider community.

The project has been in development for several years and has involved close working with Westleigh Partnerships Limited, Pelham Architects, Bakewell Town Council, the Peak District National Park Authority’s officers, Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Dales District Council and their Rural Housing Enabler.  It includes the sale of part of the school’s land, most of which is currently not utilised.

The section of land in question is on the corner of Shutts Lane and Monyash Road and is where old buildings, previously home to ’Highfields School for Girls’, are situated.  These were taken out of use several years ago and are due to be demolished.

The project will provide not only much needed affordable homes for local families, but it is intended that the sale of the land will enable the school to finance the creation of a new all-weather sports pitch.  This pitch will be suitable for hockey, football and a training surface for aspects of other sports, like rugby.

As this exciting project nears its final stages we plan to keep you informed of progress over the next few months.
