Prior to my retirement in 2011 I worked in numerous roles within the Criminal Justice System. For the last eight years this was with the Office for Criminal Justice Reform liaising between government ministers and criminal justice areas to help improve performance against government targets, with a particular focus on the experience of victims. Prior to that I worked in the Probation Service in various capacities including, Prisons, Youth Justice, Training and Development, eventually becoming Chief Officer for Sheffield.

I graduated from London University with a degree in Sociology in 1971 and completed post-graduate studies at Sheffield University.

I live in Bakewell and I enjoy walking, gardening and holidays abroad. My other voluntary work is as an Independent Custody Visitor – visiting police cells. Until recently I was a member of the Independent Monitoring Board at Foston Hall Women’s Prison in Derbyshire.
