Members of the farming club were treated to a visit to Chatsworth farms this term. Head of Farming, David Howlett, gave students a fantastic insight into the work of the Chatsworth farms. Students had a guided tour of the livestock and arable farms and were able to learn how the farms are organised and managed. The visit ended with a tour of the Chatsworth farm shop where students were able to see farm produce on sale. A huge thank you to David and all of the Chatsworth farming team for giving our students such a fantastic experience.

This week saw the first rehearsal of our new farming club choir. Students met to rehearse songs they have re-written to have a farming theme. We look forward to seeing their progress as rehearsals continue!

The farming club welcomed a special guest to their meeting last week. Shepherdess Ellen Helliwell took part in an online chat exclusively for our students. She gave students a fascinating insight into the work she has done at a range of farms and her experience of working on popular TV programmes, including Clarkson’s Farm. It was an excellent experience for our students, and we are so grateful to Ellen for giving us her time. Thank you also to Bakewell Farming Life Centre for organising the event.

We are proud to introduce our new Farming Ambassadors.

Members of the farming club applied for the role and gave a presentation to the group to explain why they wanted to be ambassadors. Both students and staff were involved in the selection process. Mr Peat presented the successful students, Billy, Eddie, George, Harry and Tom with their ambassador badges in assembly last week.

Congratulations to you all and we look forward to working with you to support our farming club and our school’s farming community.
