The majority of our students travel to and from school by bus and so we wanted to ensure that parents and carers are aware of the following information regarding bus travel.
Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Regulations (PSVAR)
With effect from 1 January 2020, all vehicles with more than 22 passenger seats that provide scheduled or local services must comply with the Public Service Vehicle Accessibility Regulations (PSVAR). These regulations apply in England, Scotland and Wales and are the responsibility of the Department for Transport.
This means that these services must incorporate features to enable disabled people to travel on them comfortably and safely, including a wheelchair space and a ramp or lift.
Due to the number of bus operators across the country who do not have suitable vehicles available, the Department of Transport offered temporary exemption certificates until 31 July 2020 to operators of school services where most children pay a fare.

Bus Passes and b-line Cards
b_line is Derbyshire County Council’s cut-price travel discount and library card for young people aged 11 up to 19. Students use b-line cards to prove their identity and age. Fare paying students (ie those who don’t have a bus pass) should present their b-line card when boarding the bus so that the driver can charge the correct fare. Students should have the correct fare ready to hand to the driver on boarding the bus.
Students with bus passes should also present their b-line card if their bus pass does not include their photograph. This provides the bus driver with proof of that student’s identity.
