Years 7, 8 and 9
Curriculum Leader: Ms R Gaunt
All students in Year 7-9 study Textiles for two periods a week, for half of the school year.
What we learn:
In Year 7 we introduce students to the importance of textiles in our everyday lives. We teach students to work safely using equipment in the textiles area and to gain an understanding of different fibres. Students learn techniques such as applique, attaching buttons, using a sewing machine and hand stitching.
In Year 8 we aim to build upon knowledge and skills learned in Year 7 with a focus on more independent problem solving skills. Students develop their construction skills.
Students build on skills learned in Years 7 and 8 to produce a 'mini GCSE style' project. They use a wide range of decorative and constructional techniques including tie-dye and screen printing to give an idea of the GCSE Textile Design course.
