Years 7, 8 and 9
Curriculum Leader: Ms R Gaunt
All students in Year 7-9 study textiles for two periods a week, for half of the school year.
What we learn:
In Year 7 we introduce students to the importance of Textiles in our everyday lives. We will train students up to work safely using equipment in the textiles area and to gain an understanding of natural fibres. We aim for students to have fun creating unique 'Fashion Monsters' that function as door stops.
The 'Hat Tricks' project aims to build upon knowledge and skills learned in Year 7 with a focus on synthetic materials. Students will make wild and creative hats using fleece fabric.
Students will be producing a 'mini GCSE Style' project. Students are given a professional design brief to design and make a funky bag for the teenage market using recycled materials.
A wide range of decorative and constructional techniques are practiced to give students an idea of the GSCE Textiles Technology course as well as the GCSE Art and Design Textiles course that are both on offer for Years 10 and 11.
